Laureate 2017

In 1978 Robert H. “Hank” Menke joined the family-owned business and in 1982 became its President and CEO. Menke was instrumental in the company’s decision to focus on manufacturing wood furniture under the name OFS. Under his leadership, OFS expanded its product offerings to include a diverse line of case goods, conferencing furniture, and upholstered seating. The success of these endeavors can be measured in the phenomenal growth of the company over the past 30 years. OFS currently has over 1,700 employees in Dubois County.

Menke has served as director of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce; charter officer of the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce; member of the Young Presidents Organization; Vice President of the Salem Church Board; President of the board of Service Concepts; Vice President of the St. Joseph Hospital Board; member of the Hadi Shrine Temple, and member of the Millikin University Board of Trustees. He is a current member of the board of Integrity Capital Corporation, Dubois County Area Development Corporation, and Freedom Bank. Menke is currently working to make I-67 a reality for Southern Indiana and serves on the Blue Ribbon Commission for Infrastructure in the State of Indiana.

Under Menke’s leadership, OFS’s corporate retreat, Cool Springs, was built in Dubois County where many functions are held for the benefit of employees, youth of the community, and area neighborhoods. Annually Menke host and attends a young hunter’s day to educate youth about safety and sportsmanship in hunting. Menke has spearheaded the planting of additional trees and educated countless children through class trips and boy scouting activities about nature preservation. Menke continues to encourage his employees to be active citizens by empowering them to play leadership roles in the Dubois County Community on various committees and boards with the support of OFS and Menke.

Menke and his family have given generously in support of the Huntingburg Fire Department, Huntingburg Stellar Endowment, Dubois County Community Foundation, the preservation of Old Town Hall in Huntingburg, and were a major contributor to the building of the Huntingburg Event Center. Most non-for-profit entities in Dubois County have received contributions from Menke or his family.
